Heart of Mary Charity Association was born out of compassion during one of the most challenging periods in Cameroon’s recent history. As the Anglophone Crisis intensified between 2016 and 2017, thousands of families were forced to flee their homes in search of safety and stability. Many left behind their livelihoods, businesses, schools, and communities, seeking refuge in cities such as Douala, Yaoundé, Bafoussam. For many, life had to begin all over again under difficult circumstances. Among the most affected were vulnerable families, women, and children. Many children were forced out of school, some were separated from their loved ones, and countless families struggled to meet their basic needs. As the number of internally displaced persons continued to grow, many turned to churches and charitable organizations for support and guidance. During this difficult time, the Catholic Church played a significant role in providing assistance to displaced persons through various outreach and support programs. In Douala, the Diocesan Youth Chaplaincy became a place of hope for many individuals and families seeking help. Through the generosity of the Church, charitable institutions, and compassionate individuals, numerous lives were touched and supported. Inspired by these remarkable acts of kindness and moved by the growing needs of displaced communities, a group of young Cameroonian professionals felt called to do more. Witnessing firsthand the challenges faced by vulnerable families and the efforts being made to support them, they envisioned an organization that would extend compassion beyond immediate relief and focus on long-term empowerment. This vision gave birth to Heart of Mary Charity Association.

From its earliest days, the Association organized small community support initiatives, educational assistance programs, and humanitarian outreach activities aimed at bringing comfort and hope to those facing hardship. What began as a simple desire to help gradually grew into a structured mission dedicated to serving vulnerable populations and empowering individuals to rebuild their lives. Over the years, Heart of Mary Charity Association has worked alongside generous partners, volunteers, institutions, and supporters to implement programs that address real community needs. These efforts have included educational aid campaigns, community support initiatives, women’s empowerment programs, and livelihood assistance for talented individuals seeking the tools and resources needed to create sustainable sources of income. The Association firmly believes that true transformation occurs when people are empowered not only to overcome immediate challenges but also to build a better future for themselves and their families. In recognition of its growing impact and commitment to service, Heart of Mary Charity Association was officially authorized and certified in October 2025. The Association was also blessed by the Douala Diocesan Youth Chaplain, affirming its commitment to serving communities with compassion, dignity, and integrity. Today, Heart of Mary Charity Association continues its mission across Douala and communities within the South West Region, including Limbe, Buea, Tiko, and Mutengene. Through the dedication of its members, volunteers, partners, and supporters, the Association has impacted more than 1,000 lives and supported over 300 families through its various programs and initiatives. As we look to the future, our commitment remains unwavering: to bring hope where there is despair, opportunity where there is hardship, and empowerment where there is vulnerability. Every life touched, every family supported, and every community strengthened reminds us why we exist.
